Another home for a displaced family in Bosnia Herzegovina

A highly competitive Golf Classic took place at Glasson Golf Club, Athlone on Friday the 11th July 2008 to raise money to build another home for a displaced family in Bosnia Herzegovina. The Midlands Rebuild for Bosnia committee organised a truly spectacular day and left no stone unturned in achieving their goal.

A capacity field of sixty four teams hailing from all parts of Ireland entered the event which was played on the championship course which will play host to a major European Challenge Tour later this month. “The conditions on the day was superb which gave the game a real edge” says Tom Walsh of Rebuild for Bosnia.

Impacting their world.

The organisers of the event visited one of the many refugee camps in Bosnia Herzegovina in April last and witnessed at first hand the conditions one hundred and eighteen families in the camp are subjected to.
Stunned by the inhumane plight of the displaced people the four Westmeath business men formed a humanitarian alliance and quickly set about reaching their first goal; a home for one displaced family.

In her presentation speech Patricia Keane, Chairperson of Rebuild for Bosnia thanked the committee of Midlands Rebuild for Bosnia for their passionate efforts in organising the Golf Classic and subsequently raising sufficient funds to build one of the two homes they have committed to. In addition Patricia thanked the participants, those who sponsored teams, tee boxes, prizes and donated their time on the day. Particular thanks was given to Tom Reid and the staff of Glasson Golf Club for the condition of the course and their hospitality throughout the day.

Spurned on by the overwhelming support for the Golf Classic the Midlands Rebuild for Bosnia Committee are already in preparation for a Hatter’s Ball in October to raise funds for the second home.
