Black Tie Ball

RTE's Anne Doyle was master of ceremonies at a glittering ball at Athlone's Radisson Hotel on June 16th  2007. The high profile ball was organised by the Athlone Friends of Rebuild for Bosnia in order to raise funds for the displaced families of Bosnia Herzegovina.

The charity was founded by Kildare woman, Patricia Keane after she witnessed first hand the tragedies of the war in Bosnia Herzegovina. The charity has housed over 1,100 displaced people over the last nine years.

Mr. Anton Babic the Acting Croatian Ambassador to Ireland was guest of honour at the prestigious ball. Mrs. Mary O’Rourke T.D and South Kildare, poll topper Sean O’Fearghail and his wife Marie Clare danced into the small hours of the morning.

The Marketing and Fund Raising person for the charity Tom Walsh and the Athlone Friends of Rebuild for Bosnia worked tirelessly in achieving the sale of four hundred tickets for the ball and in obtaining thirty eight exceptional raffle prizes many for weekend breaks in four and five star hotels around the country and 13 auction items in total raising €35,000.00

Over 450,000 people are still displaced in a country with 60 per cent unemployment that has no social welfare system and where families are literally starving. Many of these families live in shacks 16ftX12ft in a collective centre for refugees just 20 minutes drive outside of Medjugorje.
